Do we live in a tidy or untidy universe?

It is an interesting question, one that we don’t ask ourselves very often. Maybe it should be the one pressing question on everyone’s mind. But you might ask, “why is it important?” If we live in an untidy universe, one in which chaos rules, then all this worry about natural order and natural law is rather silly, isn’t it? But if, on the otherhand, we live in a tidy universe, one in which natural law might explain the way the universe operates, then, by all means, man should continue to explore and calculate and make every attempt to find answers to universal questions. On an individual level, however, what is the one pressing question that seems to burn more deeply into your mind and heart than any other? I think most of us would agree that we are all rather curious about what happens after we die. In other words, is this life all there is? Or is it just the beginning to an infinite number of amazing adventures that lie ahead for us? I think that most of us would like to believe in an afterlife, or in a universe filled with energy that is never lost, and that this is really what we are: energy that goes on and on. I think we can all agree that we are made of energy, but what we don’t seem to be able to agree on is: what happens to this energy after we die? And does this energy have a consciousness? I guess this is the burning question that most of us struggle with: is there consciousness after death? And what about memory? Even if there is a consciousness in energy, will we recall this life after we die? And if we aren’t able to recall this life, what is all the fuss about? If we’ll have no recollection of this life after we die, then why should we be so careful about how we live now? I think this is where the confusion lies: do we have an obligation to live a certain way? And, if so, who or what are we obligated to? Therefore, in order to find some relief in life, we need to ask ourselves if we’d rather live in a tidy or untidy universe. For me, I’m happy to believe that chaos and absurdity rule. They seem to be a better fit for the universe I live in.
